Codependent Cocktails + Coffee quickly became a personal staple in my Austin experiences. The first time I visited the city was on a girls’ trip in April 2022. We were looking for a nearby place to grab a drink on our way to the famous “Bat Bridge,” where you stand on a bridge and supposedly watch an absurd number of bats fly out from under it. Since it wasn’t quite time for the bats to wake up, Happy Hour was calling our names! We were walking along the Shoal Creek Trail when we stumbled upon Codependent’s expansive patio, surrounded by greenery. We chose some incredible cocktails from their wide range of options and enjoyed the lingering warmth of the Texas sun. We loved the sound of all of their offerings, so we made it our coffee stop the next day!
The morning presented a bright interior, making it an excellent space for work, socializing, or fueling up with caffeine and a bite (check their website for the current details, such as their menu and laptop policy). There were a bunch of dogs enjoying their time there, too - which I love to see as a dog lover! The vibes were definitely there.
Two years after the girls’ trip, my husband and I took our own vacation to Austin, and we planned a walk along the Colorado River with a stop at Codependent. I was pregnant this time, so we opted for a morning coffee visit. They also offered teas, specialty drinks, tacos, wraps, paninis, and morning and afternoon bite options. Of course, we both had to try their specialty drinks! I couldn’t decide between the Cafe Nico and the Black Sesame Latte, so, naturally, we each ordered one! The Cafe Nico had espresso, vanilla, cinnamon, and orange, with the milk of your choosing, and the Black Sesame Latte had espresso, black sesame, activated charcoal, orange, and your preferred milk (both pictured). I enjoyed the robust orange and cinnamon flavors in the Cafe Nico, and the Black Sesame Latte had a lasting nutty flavor. There were even more options on the menu, although this list would get a bit long! There is even a whole section just for ceremonial matcha. Honestly, I don’t think you can make a bad selection when you are there!
What a special place to visit for a good time with delicious options! If you are in Austin and love a good beverage, I recommend you give Codependent a go! I’ve consistently had a good time there. However, I cannot promise you will consistently see bats at the South Congress bridge, as we only saw two.
